After a goalless first half, Brazilian superstar Ronaldo broke the deadlock six minutes after the interval with a well-taken goal.
Real's winning margin should have been greater, however Luis Figo missed from the penalty spot just after the hour mark to keep the visitors in the game.
With the Catalan visitors pushing forward Ronaldo grabbed his second of the contest with eight minutes remaining to end any doubt where the points would go.
There was still time for substitute Alex Fernandez to pull one back, but it proved nothing more than a consolation for the visitors.
The Estadi Montjuic side even finished the contest with 10-men after former Fulham defender Pierre Wome was sent-off for picking up two yellow cards.
Barcelona crashed to their first defeat of the season after Ricardo Oliveira's early goal settled the tie for Valencia at Estadi Camp Nou.
Despite making all the early running it was the visitors who took the lead through a stunning Oliveira volley from outside the penalty area.
Going ahead allowed Valencia to sit back to attack Barca on the counter, while Ronaldinho was the only real spark in Frank Rijkaard's side.
While not at their best, the Estadio Mestella side controlled the game and did enough to earn the points that sent them back to the top of La Liga.
Racing Santander moved away from the relegation zone following an impressive 4-0 victory over 10-man Real Valladolid.
Bodipo opened the scoring at El Estadio Nuevo Jose Zorrilla after 14 minutes, but it was not until the hour mark that Mario Regueiro made the game safe.
With the game in the bag Bodipo bagged his second before Mehdi Nafti added a fourth to complete the rout.
Valladolid's task was made all the harder when Albano Bizarri was shown a straight red card, leaving the home to retrieve the match a man down.
Murcia secured their first victory of the season thanks to a solitary goal just five minutes in from midfielder Michel against fellow strugglers Albacete at La Condomina.
Migel Angel was the hero for Malaga against Celta Vigo as his late goal earned a 2-1 win over the Champions League side.
Fernando Sanz got the ball rolling, before former Aston Villa striker Savo Milosevic, recalled to the side after missing Wednesday's clash against Milan, levelled matters with 20 minutes remaining.
They were not on level terms for long however, with Miguel Angel netting the winner just two minutes later to secure their second win of the season.
Real Sociedad shared the points at home to Sevilla after Dario Silva equalised Darko Kovacevic's third minute strike after just 12 minutes.
Veteran defender Miguel Angel Nadal thought he had fired Mallorca to a late win over Osasuna when he netted, however just a minute later substitute Pierre Webo snatched an equaliser.
