Laporta was responding to criticism of Rijkaard and his players after their disappointing 3-0 defeat at Racing Santander last Sunday.
The win moved Racing above their illustrious Catalan rivals in the Primera table, and left many Barca supporters questioning Rijkaard's position.
However, Laporta has called for calm, and remains adamant that former Milan and Ajax star Rijkaard will bring success back to Camp Nou.
"I ask for understanding, serenity and calmness as we are convinced that we will turn around this situation," said the Barca supremo.
"We are going to give the Barcelona fans the triumphs that they deserve.
"Rijkaard is a coach with a great professional capacity: very calm, very motivated and with a true feeling of the responsibility he has.
"What's more he is an extraordinary person. He is suffering because he sees the weaknesses there are, above all in mentality, but he has our confidence."
Laporta added that he felt the current Barca squad was good enough to achieve the target of UEFA Champions League qualification this term, but admitted new signings could be made in the coming weeks, and dropped a further hint that Edgar Davids could be one of the fresh faces.
Of the Davids situation, he stated: "We are in permanent communication. But at this stage there is nothing concrete and everything is in the realms of hypothesis.
"The squad is sufficiently competitive to complete the season and achieve the objectives set out.
"If they (Rijkaard and Txitxi Beguiristain) ask us to strengthen the squad and the club are able to make certain incorporations, we would undertake it."
