Athletic Bilbao improved their chances of European qualification with a 3-1 result at Mallorca.
Francisco JavierYeste scored the first for the visitors on 19 minutes but Carlos Lurpegi put through his own net to leave matters all square at the break.
However Bilbao turned the screw in the second half with Joseba Etxeberria (57) putting them back in front and a Federico Lussenhoff own goal with five minutes remaining giving them all three points.
Barcelona moved into the top six after they demolished Albacete 5-0 at Camp Nou.
Xavi got them on their way after 15 minutes with the opener and then a three-goal burst in five second-half minutes wrapped up the points.
Striker Javier Saviola found the net on 49 and then strikes from Ricardo Quaresma and recent signing Edgar Davids secured victory. Substitute Luis Enrique added a late fifth in the last minute.
Deportivo La Coruna consolidated their third place position with a 1-0 home win over Sevilla as striker Diego Tristan scored the only goal from the penalty spot in the first half.
