Ambrosini was considering move away from the scudetto champions after a lack of first team appearances in Carlo Ancelotti's squad this season cost him a place in Italy's Euro 2004 squad.
The player was attracting the interest of Serie A rivals Roma and he was keen to clear his situation with the Rossoneri ahead of next season.
However, after a meeting between the player and Galliani, the club's general manager declared that Ambrosini would be staying with the new Italian champions, stating the decision prompted Milan to drop their interest in Dutch midfield maestro Edgar Davids.
"Ambrosini talked with me on Saturday," Galliani told the 'Milan Channel'.
"We cleared everything and from this meeting emerged only a certainty - Ambrosini is staying at Milan.
"This is the reason for which we gave up on Davids.
"Ambrosini stays and with his presence added to the other champions in our group, we surely have an important midfield."
Davids, meanwhile, may be nearing a move to Milan's rivals Internazionale for next season, after he spent the latter half of this campaign on loan at Barcelona from parent club Juventus.
