Lazio to land Spaniard

Lazio have agreed a deal to sign Barcelona defender Oscar Lopez on loan.

Lazio have agreed a deal to sign Barcelona defender Oscar Lopez on a season-long loan deal.

New Biancoceleste president Claudio Lotito has pledged to bring in several fresh recruits before the start of the new Serie A season.

Spanish stopper Lopez is set to be the first of the arrivals at Stadio Olimpico after accepting the switch to Rome.

He has yet to truly establish himself as a first choice under Frank Rijkaard at Camp Nou and should be unveiled on Monday.

Lopez likens himself to former Barcelona defender Frank De Boer and admits he used the veteran Dutchman as a role model.

"Over the years, my example has been Frank De Boer," said Lopez. "I draw my inspiration from him and I tried to learn a lot from him."

Lazio could also bring another Barcelona defender to the club after setting up a deal for Mexico international Rafael Marquez.

If Barca's new signing Edmilson fails to receive an EU passport, they are prepared to ship out Marquez with his destination likely to be Lazio.
