Barcelona's injury jinx has continued with Edmilson set for an extended spell out.Barcelona's injury jinx has continued with the news that Edmilson could be ruled out for around six months.
The Brazilian defender damaged ligaments in his right knee in Barca's 1-0 win over Numancia on Sunday night.
He now faces an extended spell on the sidelines with team-mates Thiago Motta and Gabri who have both sustained similar injuries in recent weeks.
It is understood the summer signing from Lyon has torn the meniscus in his right knee, and could have also torn his cruciate ligament.
He will undergo tests on Monday to ascertain the full extent of the injury, but if the tear to his cruciate ligament is confirmed he will be out for around six months.
Barca are hoping it is just his meniscus that has been seriously damaged as he would then be expected to be out of action for around two months.
Barcelona club doctor Jordi Ardevol conceded the club are concerned about their current injury problems and admitted the spate of ligament problems was bizarre.
"It is not normal that every two weeks we are getting cruciate ligament injuries," Ardevol stated.
Spanish league rule state that clubs are permitted to sign replacements for players struck down with long-term injuries outside the transfer window, and Barca now look certain to take advantage of this regulation.
