The prolific marksman Samuel Eto'o gave the Catalans the lead mid-way through the first half after sublimely finishing Deco's pass past Malaga goalkeeper Juan Calatayud for 1-0.
Four minutes later, Deco got himself on the scoresheet with a rasping drive that flew past a diving Calatayud to delight the home crowd.
Barca always looked in control of the contest and increased their lead in the second half when Andres Iniesta ran across the face of Malaga's goal before striking left footed into the corner for 3-0.
Eto'o capped victory with a fourth goal after taking a pass from Iniesta in the Malaga box before finishing with similar aplomb to his first goal with his right foot.
The result keeps Barca's march towards the title on course while Malaga face a relegation dogfight in the bottom three.
Valencia are level on points with second place Real Madrid after a late 1-0 win at struggling Albacete.
Francisco Xisco's strike with two minutes remaining gave Claudio Ranieri's side three big points, as the Primera Liga champions continue to move back up the table.
The loss keeps Albacete a point above the bottom three and in a fight to avoid relegation this term.
Finally, Real Sociedad recorded a fine 1-0 victory over high-flying Real Betis at the Anoeta.
Darko Kovacevic's first half strike meant the Basque club have taken seven points from their last three matches.
