Barcelona have tabled a é¼5.5 million offer for Argentine starlet Maxi Lopez.Barcelona have tabled a é¼5.5 million offer for Argentine starlet Maxi Lopez - according to his club River Plate.
The 20-year-old striker was believed to be on the verge of completing a move to Benfica, but Barcelona's late interest has seen that transfer stall.
Lopez is known to favour a switch to Spain, and is reported to be 'very proud' at the interest in him from Barcelona.
"I already knew about the interest of Benfica and now there is an approach from Barcelona," he told Ole.
"I will talk with my agent, and we will have to make a calm decision."
Lopez is one of three River players who investment group MSI are planning to buy and then sell on, with midfielders Javier Mascherano and Luis Gonzalez lined up for moves to Corinthians and Porto respectively.
However, Barca have topped the offer submitted by Benfica for Lopez - thought to be é¼4.8 million - and now appear in pole position for his signature.
The Catalans have been scouring the transfer market for a striker following a serious injury to Henrik Larsson and have been linked with Udinese's Vincenzo Iaquinta and John Carew of Besiktas.
