Barca were frustrated by Alaves on the opening day, but two goals by Samuel Eto'o ensured there was no repeat.
Eto'o did the damage in the first half, with his opener on 26 minutes taking a wicked deflection on its way past Miguel Moya and the second a close range header after the keeper's save from Ludovic Giuly had fallen invitingly into his path.
The margin of victory could have been bigger had it not been for Moya, while Mallorca's hopes were not helped by the second half dismissals of Sergio Ballesteros and Francisco Farinos.
A brace of goals from Jose Barkero secured Real Sociedad three points against Alaves.
Barkero did the damage in the first half and ensured a late goal from former Chelsea player Enrique de Lucas was nothing more than a consolation.
Dani Guiza was on target as his goal earned Getafe a draw against Athletic Bilbao.
Sesma Jonathan netted late in the day at Racing Santander to hand promoted Cadiz their first points of the season.
Luciano Figueroa's effort 15 minutes from time rescued a point for Villarreal against Sevilla who had led through Adriano Correia.
David Villa netted late in the day to earn Valencia a point on their travels at Real Zaragoza.
Valencia did lead early on through Miguel Angulo, but Zaragoza turned the game on its head thanks to goals from Ewerthon and Ruben Cani.
Zaragoza battled hard to preserve their lead, but were undone eight minutes from time when Villa popped up to pinch a point.
Espanyol claimed maximum points from their trip to Malaga, with Pablo Zabaleta and Luis Garcia netting the goals which set up a 2-1 win. Gerardo Garcia bagged a late penalty for Malaga, but they could not muster another goal to pinch a point.
