Xavi has refused to speculate on whether he will be fit for next summer's World Cup.Barcelona playmaker Xavi has refused to speculate on whether he will recover from his knee ligament injury in time to travel to the World Cup finals next summer in Germany.
The Spain international midfielder sustained the knee injury during training last Friday and underwent surgery at the weekend, with doctors unable to say whether he will return for the last few games of the season.
Xavi is not ready to start setting himself a time limit, but did hint that he thinks that there is enough time for him to battle back to full fitness before Luis Aragones names his squad for the World Cup.
"At the moment I do not want to make any predictions," he said. "Now I have to think only about myself and about the knee and listen to the doctors so that I can recover as quickly as possible.
"There are still many months left before the World Cup."
Aragones sees Xavi as an integral part of his squad and included him in a national team get-together next Monday, when 33 players will meet at a Madrid hotel in a bonding exercise.
Having only left hospital, following the surgery, on Tuesday, the 25-year-old has told the Spain trainer that he will not be able to attend.
"I have spoken to the coach and as I am still on crutches, I will not be able to go," Xavi explained.
"He told me that he is counting on me, but he knows how things go and is just hoping that I can recover soon."
Xavi played down the effect that his injury will have on the team and believes that he will not be missed because the Blaugrana have such a strong squad.
"The team is playing very well and the players are all performing superbly and my absence will not be noted, just like when any other player is injured," he concluded.
