Veteran stopper feels in good shape ahead of showdown

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol says he is raring to go ahead of Saturday night's UEFA Champions League final against Manchester United. The veteran defender has endured an injury-plagued year so far, missing several games during his side's Primera Liga title victory as well as their run to their third European Cup final in six years. But Puyol insists he is feeling fit and ready for action ahead of Saturday's Wembley showdown. The 33-year-old skipper said: "I feel great. The last game I played, I prepared for this and I'm ready and I can play. I'm fully fit. "It is true that, because of my injury, I haven't been playing a lot over the last few months.

Better

"When I played against Madrid in the semi-final, I hadn't played much either. "I've trained even more now so I'm in a better position." Speculation has surfaced during the build-up to the Wembley final that Barca coach Pep Guardiola could leave the club once the Champions League is decided. But Puyol, who has spent his entire club career at Camp Nou, sincerely hopes that is not the case. He added: "He's the best trainer in the world and this is his place. I hope he is here for many years."
