Barca midfielder says standings mean nothing in 'El Clasico'

Barcelona midfielder Xavi says league position counts for nothing when it comes to 'El Clasico'. Barca face arch-rivals Real Madrid in one of the highlights of the Spanish season on Saturday, with the Catalan club currently trailing Real by three points despite playing a game more. Last season Jose Mourinho's sides had a man sent off both league games, as Pep Guardiola's men humiliated Madrid in a 5-0 defeat at Camp Nou before drawing the return fixture 1-1. And heading into Saturday's game at the Santiago Bernabéu, Xavi has placed no importance on the league table.

Physical

He said: "Madrid are doing well, they have 11 straight wins in the league and they have three more points than us. "The advantage means they are in a better position than us, but in El Clasico it is not about the ranking. Anything can happen. "Madrid will arrive at the game in better shape than in the past three of four years. They are physically strong. But to win at the Bernabeu would be a pleasure. "We will tighten up and play a very physical game."
