The 21-year-old has been touted as a possible replacement for Victor Valdes at Barcelona when the long-serving goalkeeper leaves the Nou Camp at the end of this season.
However, Ter Stegen is determined to concentrate on his career with home-town club Monchengladbach.
Asked about the links with Barcelona and the possibility of him one day playing in Spain, Ter Stegen told Catalan newspaper Sport: "I don't know, right now I'm focused on Borussia, which is the most important thing for me.
"I owe this club, which I've followed since I was little and this now is the main thing.
"It's nice to hear that interest exists, but that's all I can say at the minute. I'm happy to be in Monchengladbach and we'll see what happens."
He added of his long-term future: "What has to happen will happen. I'm preparing every day to be the best goalkeeper I can and try to take it day by day."
Ter Stegen acknowledged that Valdes is one of the players he looks up to, saying: "I always try to learn from the great goalkeepers.
"Victor is one of the best keepers in the world. He's done a great job at Barca for many years. I don't know him personally, but he seems a very good keeper. He's first choice at his club, he's an international...."
