Teams across La Liga at the weekend, including the Barcelona players and their opponents from Villarreal, observed a minute's silence.
Other sporting events in Spain, including the ATP final of the Barcelona Open between Kei Nishikori and Santiago Giraldo, were also involved in honouring Vilanova.
He died aged 45 following a two-and-a-half year battle with cancer of the salivary gland.
The Villarreal players wore T-shirts with the message "Tito, per sempre" ("Tito forever") to remember the man that led Barca to the La Liga title last season with a record 100 points tally before being forced to step down just two weeks before the start of the current campaign due to his health problems.
Vilanova's funeral will take place on Monday evening at Barcelona Cathedral.
Vilanova had a tumour removed from his throat in November 2011 before suffering a relapse in December 2012 and was forced to step down as Barca boss last July with Gerardo Martino taking the reins at the Nou Camp.
