Los Galacticos needed a win to restore some confidence after the disappointment of last week's 3-0 defeat at arch-rivals Barcelona and they showed no mercy to Ian Harte and his team-mates at El Santiago Bernabeu.
It took Real 42 minutes to open the scoring, with Ronaldo bringing some relief to the home side with the first of his two goals on Sunday.
The home side then scored three goals in four second half minutes, with Luis Figo making it 2-0 five minutes after the break.

Champions Valencia heaped more misery on bottom club Mallorca with a 2-0 win at the Mestalla.
Emiliano Moretti gave the Che a first half lead before Ruben Baraja sealed the points with a second goal just after the hour mark.
The win keeps Claudio Ranieri's side ten points adrift of Barca while Hector Cuper's Mallorca stay rooted to the foot of the Primera Liga table.

Sociedad were forced to end the match with ten men when Russian winger Valery Karpin received a second booking four minutes from the end.

Albacete won a crucial bottom-of-the-table clash with Malaga - beating them 2-0 at La Rosaleda.
Laurent Viaud gave the visitors a one-goal lead at half time before Momo made it two a minute after the break, as Albacete moved two points clear of the relegation places.
Later on Sunday, Valencia face Mallorca at the Mestalla.
