The Galician outfit have clinched promotion back to La Primera and are looking to strengthen for their return to the top flight.
They have opened talks for the shot-stopper, who was born in Galicia, and are hopeful of agreeing a deal.
Esteban, who turns 30 next week, is under contract at Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan but is unsure of his future following the arrival of Andres Palop from Valencia.
He has demanded to know whether he features in the plans of new boss Juande Ramos and wants his future quickly resolved one way or another.
"I have not received any more news from the club, but want a quick solution," he declared.
"If the new coach is not interested in me I want to know the truth."
Meanwhile, Celta are also thought to be rivalling Racing Santander for the services of Atletico Madrid midfielder Jorge.
Both clubs want to take the 23-year-old on a season-long loan, but are awaiting the decision of Atletico boss Carlos Bianchi who wants to see his new squad in action before choosing whether to release players.
