Neither Iker Casillas nor Caesar Sanchez have inspired confidence in an already shaky defence so far this season and the latter will be disappointed with the opening goal he gave away in Deportivo's 2-1 win in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.
Now going into Saturday's game with Villarreal, Real coach Vicente del Bosque has given no hint as to who will be his first choice, despite Caesar playing the last three games.
Del Bosque's system so far has been to decide a couple of hours before the game and it does not appear that he will change this.
Casillas said: "Personally, I must continue working just as I have been doing until now. There is no other formula.
"I cried because I really wanted to win the Copa del Rey. It is a trophy we do not have and we all had the dream to win.
"I felt very sad after losing the Copa del Rey because we were very focussed on winning the title and we did not. We were working for the title but we didn't make it."
