Clubs ubiquitous in Europe have been linked with the defensive colossus with Real Madrid along with Italian neighbours Lazio and Roma said to be leading the chase.
The World Cup finals in the Far East will hand Lucio a huge stage to showcase his talents and Bayer are aware of how difficult it will be to ward off the advances of potential suitors.
"If he plays a super World Cup we won't be able to keep him," conceded Calmund to 'Sport Bild'.
Lucio moved to the BayArena from Internacional two seasons ago in a deal worth just over £5 million but his grace on the ball and defensive strength have seen his value quadruple and a summer auction could see bids of £20 million-plus for the Brazilian international.
With important midfield duo Michael Ballack and Ze Roberto poised to join Bayern Munich and doubts surrounding the future of Lucio, coach Klaus Toppmoller is looking for reinforcements for next season.
Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Christoph Preuss, 1860 Munich winger Daniel Bierofka and FC Cologne defender Hanno Balitsch are all on the wanted-list along with Kaiserslautern and German forward Miroslav Klose.
