The World Cup winner has frequently admitted that he would love to move to Madrid ever since Real first enquired about him last summer as a successor to Fernando Hierro, but Bayer's possible relegation from the Bundesliga could now make the move a possibility.
"Real have made a concrete offer," revealed Bayer general manager Ilja Kaenzig in an interview with Express.
"We have, however, put any negotiations on ice for the moment. Lucio first has to fulfil his mission at Bayer Leverkusen."
The 25-year-old Brazilian, who has been out of action for much of the season through injury, scored two spectacular goals in Sunday's crucial 3-1 win over Arminia Bielefeld that kept Leverkusen in the running to avoid the drop.
Should last year's Champions League finalists fail to stay in the top flight, however, Bayer's management team appears resigned to losing their star.
"A player of his class can choose which club he wants to play for," added Kaenzig.
Leverkusen would be expected to demand a transfer fee of around é¼30 million for Lucio, who is contracted at the BayArena until 2007.
