Any lingering title hopes seem to have already slipped away but Depor could now even lose their third place to Barcelona should they win on Sunday.
After their heroics against Milan in the UEFA Champions League, Depor were given a reminder of Liga life as struggling Valladolid took the lead a minute before half time through Oscar Gonzalez.
Coach Javier Irureta made a double switch just after half time in an attempt to stir his troops into action, with both Djalminha and Walter Pandiani coming off the bench.
It was Djalminha who provided the breakthrough as Depor levelled after 55 minutes at The Riazor.
The Brazilian assumed the responsibility of taking the penalty awarded to the hosts by referee Alfonso Pino Zamorano.
Djalminha made no mistake in beating Valladolid goalkeeper Albano Bizarri from 12 yards to put the hosts level.
Depor, who must have an eye on their midweek Champions League semi-final clash with Porto, could not find a winner and had to settle for a point.
Valladolid will be pleased they capitalised on Depor's minds being elsewhere and the point gives them a six-point gap above the drop zone.
Athletic Bilbao continued their charge for a European place after handing out a 4-0 thumping to Real Zaragoza at Estadio San Mames.
Joseba Exteberria gave the home side the lead on 33 minutes, and Asier del Horno doubled their advantage just before the hour mark.
Bilbao were fully in control and Francisco Yeste added a late double on 77 and 89 minutes to inflict a heavy defeat on the visitors.
