Walter Samuel is being lined up to make his Real Madrid debut.
Walter Samuel is being lined up to make his Real Madrid return in the UEFA Champions League tie with Bayer Leverkusen.
The Argentinian defender suffered a knee injury in the previous round against Wisla Crakow but has been making progress in his bid for fitness.
Jose Antonio Camacho feels Samuel will help stiffen Real's defence, and he still has Jonathan Woodgate waiting in the wings as he also recovers from injury following his move from Newcastle United.
Samuel could play in Leverkusen on September 15 but will not be rushed back for the weekend's encounter with Numancia.
"The player could return to the squad training sessions," doctor Juan Carlos Hernandez told Real's official website.
However, the latest updates from the Spanish capital have indicated that the South American is still undergoing a lot of gym work and has yet to kick a ball in training.
Clearly, Camacho wants the centre back available for the German trip but the next few days will be critical to his possible inclusion.
