Getafe's Gabi has been boosted by the news that he has not torn knee ligaments.Getafe midfielder Gabi has been handed a major injury boost with the news that his knee injury is less serious than first feared.
The talented midfielder, who is on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid, suffered knee ligament damage in last weekend's win over city rivals Real Madrid.
The 21-year-old was forced from the pitch early on after being on the end of a crunching tackle from Thomas Gravesen.
Indeed, the Dane caused controversy by initially failing to apologise to Gabi after the game for the tackle, although he has subsequently expressed his sympathy with the Getafe starlet.
It was thought that Gabi had torn ligaments in his left knee and would be out for between three and six months, but tests have now shown there is no tear but just severe bruising.
Getafe are hopeful the midfielder could be back before the end of the Spanish season with his recuperation period expected to be between five and six weeks.
