Real continue Cassano pursuit

Spanish reports indicate that Real Madrid are closing in on the signing of Antonio Cassano.

Reports in the Spanish media indicate that Real Madrid are closing in on the signing of Roma contract rebel Antonio Cassano, although the Italian outfit have laughed off an opening ‚é¼5 million bid.

The gifted forward is refusing to sign a new deal at Stadio Olimpico, resulting in being banished from the first team on a number of occasions, and will become a free agent in the summer.

Reports now suggest that Los Merengues, desperate to correct their unimpressive start to the season, are pursuing a January deal.

Cassano's agent has reputedly held talks with Real officials in a bid to find an agreement over personal terms, as they look to pressure the Serie A side into a quick sale.

However Giallorossi coach Luciano Spalletti has warned the Spanish giants they will not get Cassano on the cheap.

"Whoever wants him have to not take advantage of the situation," said Spalletti after the 4-0 victory over Chievo.

"Should they offer a small sum, the player, although in June he will become a free agent, will stay with us.

"Should they want him, they must pay for him, if they don't want to pay the player will stay with us until June.

"In my opinion ‚é¼5 million for Cassano isn't an adequate sum."
