According to Spanish radio, Inter have tabled a swap deal involving the two Brazilian strikers.
The major sticking point with the deal would be Real Madrid requiring to free up a place for a non-EU player to join.
However, the possible arrival of Jose Antonio Reyes, with Julio Baptista going to Arsenal, would free the way for Adriano to join Real.
Ronaldo's future in Spain has been a major talking point over the summer, with Inter's rivals Milan also keen to bring the striker to Italy.
After negotiations ended last week the 29-year-old was expected to remain at the Bernabeu but the latest reports will again increase speculation about the hit-man's possible exit from Spain.
Inter supremo Massimo Moratti is remaining coy on the latest reports, insisting the club want to keep Adriano in Italy.
"I read this in the papers, so I don't think it surprised me, but I don't think the news is true," Moratti told Sky Italia.
"What other clubs' will could be is another thing, but there is the will from our side to give faith to Adriano, this is without doubt.
"We are not pushing. A negotiation closed before the end of market? I don't really think so."
Meanwhile, Inter are thought to be close to agreeing a deal with Palermo for winger Mariano Gonzalez.
The Argentina international is expected to seal his switch to the Serie A giants before the transfer window closes.
