Ruud Van Nistelrooy may have scored a hat-trick for Real Madrid on Sunday, but he was still disappointed to have spurned two other gilt-edged opportunities.The Dutch striker showed his class as he netted three times in Los Merengues' 4-1 win at Levante and has been widely tipped to finish as the league's top goalscorer this season.
While recognising the importance of the victory to the team, Van Nistelrooy was frustrated that he failed to score from the spot as well as seeing another close range chance stopped by Levante keeper Pablo Cavallero.
"It was a good day, an important victory," the former Manchester United striker said. "We needed the three points because Wednesday we have a very important game and that has given us great confidence.
"But I missed a penalty, it was bad, very bad and missed another chance when the keeper made a save."
David Beckham was impressed, but not shocked by Van Nistelrooy's impressive performance and believes that the Holland international can repeat the success he enjoyed in England in the Spanish league.
"Ruud was a phenomenon at Manchester United and he will be here," he said. "He has scored three goals, but could have had five."
Jose Antonio Reyes was pleased to have finally made his debut for Madrid after making a loan switch from Arsenal on transfer deadline day.
"I am delighted to have made my debut and won the game," he explained.
"I know that you receive more kicks in the Spanish league, but I am fine because they could not hurt me.
"The coach congratulated me and said that I should carry on like that. I think I teamed up well with Robinho and we created several chances together.
"It is only the first game, but I hope that there will be many more like it ahead."
