Boca Juniors have told Real Madrid to increase their offer for Fernando Gago.
Real Madrid will have to increase their offer for Fernando Gago if they are to land the Boca Juniors midfielder.Gago's exciting displays in his homeland have seen scouts from Europe's elite clubs flock to Boca games this season and reports have suggested Madrid are willing to pay in the region of £10-14 million for his services.
It had even been intimated that a deal could be concluded in time for Real president Ramon Calderon to parade the 20-year-old at the club's general assembly on Sunday.
Boca president Mauricio Macri has moved quickly to dismiss any such notion, warning Real that they must up their bid as other clubs still hold a strong interest in the player.
"The player wants to go to Real Madrid, but there are other alternatives that are even more attractive to Boca," Macri told Marca.
"Madrid need to stretch as far as they can, but there are other options. Unless someone shoots me and my fellow directors there is no chance that Gago will be presented by Real before Sunday.
"That day he will be playing for Boca to help them become champions."
Meanwhile, David Beckham has resumed training after missing Madrid's last three games with a knee injury.
It is expected Beckham will be passed fit to face Athletic Bilbao but whether Fabio Capello elects to employ his services remains another matter.
