Lopez has made a huge impression at Madrid since rejoining the club on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Sevilla during the January transfer window.
The 31-year-old was brought in after Iker Casillas was ruled out for three months with a hand injury and he has made the most of the opportunity with a series of superb performances.
That has kept fit-again Casillas on the sidelines but, with Jose Mourinho leaving Madrid at the end of the season, it could be that Lopez may lose his starting spot to the long-serving Spain captain next season.
Whatever happens though, Lopez, who came up through the youth ranks at Madrid before moving to Villarreal in 2007, is not looking to leave the Spanish giants again any time soon.
He said after producing another brilliant display in last night's 3-3 draw with Real Sociedad: "I've tried to take advantage of the chance as always. At Madrid it's difficult to be sad.
"I've always tried to do things as well as possible. I've already said that every minute at Real Madrid is golden and that's what I want to do, take advantage of every opportunity I have to play.
"It's in my plans to continue. I think that competition between goalkeepers is positive."
