Valencia join Zapater chase

Liverpool could face competition for the signature of Alberto Zapater.

Liverpool could face competition for the signature of Alberto Zapater, with Valencia reportedly keeping tabs on the Real Zaragoza midfielder's situation.

The young schemer has won many fans with his composed efforts for Real and has been linked a move through the exit door after rejecting a new deal to stay at La Romareda.

The Spanish side would be looking for around £4 million for his services, a price which is well within Liverpool's grasp.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez is thought to be a huge admirer of Zapater, but he could well be rivalled by his former club.

It is believed that Valencia sporting director Amedeo Carboni has initiated contact and could well use Pablo Aimar as makeweight in any deal.

Aimar is reported to have been offered a two-year loan by Zaragoza and this could allow Valencia to jump to the head of the queue for Zapater's signature.
