Brazilian defender Aurelio underwent surgery on a knee ligament injury back in July and was ruled out for up to eight weeks.
But the Che doctors are still uncertain when the exciting full back will be ready to return to competitive action.
Che coach Benitez is concerned Aurelio's lengthy absence from his plans will hinder his side's early season prospects.
Benitez is perturbed he does not have the resources to fully compensate for Aurelio's absence, particularly if veteran defender Amadeo Carboni suffers an injury.
Carboni is currently filling the void but the Italian's ageing legs may not cope with the demands of La Liga, the Uefa Cup and Copa del Rey.
That leaves Benitez devoid of options as the coach is not completely convinced by the qualities of Rafael Garrido.
Vicente could drop back from midfield while recent signing Nestor Cannobio could fill in as an emergency left back but prefers a central role.
Benitez is desperately hoping Aurelio can set himself a firm comeback date but his continued absence has posed the Valencia chief a conundrum.
