Valencia have set their sights on Atletico Madrid defender Luis Perea.New Valencia boss Quique Flores has set his sights on Atletico Madrid defender Luis Perea.
The Colombian proved a revelation in La Liga last term, his first following a move from Boca Juniors.
He formed a formidable central defensive partnership with Pablo Ibanez at Atletico, and attracted the interest of a host of clubs with his displays.
City rivals Real were linked with a move for him last week, but it appears Valencia will be first to test Atletico's resolve.
Flores is keen to take Perea to the Mestalla and sees him as the ideal replacement for Curro Torres who faces another seven months on the sidelines with a persistent knee injury.
Although Perea has been operating at centre back for Atletico, he can play at full back as he has demonstrated for both Boca and national side Colombia.
However, Valencia are likely to have to dig deep for a player Atletico are keen to hold on to.
Perea signed a new deal at the Vicente Calderon midway through last term which raised his release clause to some é¼30 million.
Some reports have suggested that The Che will offer either Marco di Vaio or Miguel Angel Angulo in exchange, but both players have insisted they have no intention of leaving Valencia this summer.
