Navarro blasts injury whispers

David Navarro has hit back at claims he feigned the severity of a knee injury.

Valencia defender David Navarro has hit back at suggestions he has been feigning the severity of a knee injury.

The 25-year-old stopper, for whom Liverpool made an unsuccessful bid before the transfer deadline, is yet to make a senior appearance for the Che this season.

He has been troubled by a persistent knee complaint, but new scans have now shown there is no visible damage.

Navarro has been hurt by claims that he has played up the injury and has spoken out to set the record straight.

"I have never feigned an injury. I am a professional," he stated indignantly.

"I didn't play, but not because the coach did not select me or because I did not want to.

"I was not at 100 percent and, even though the tests came out negative, I had pains."

Navarro went on to take a swipe at the club's medical staff who he blames for making him miss the club's InterToto Cup campaign after allowing him to take a banned substance.

"It's clear that they (the medical staff) have some blame in me not being able to play in the InterToto," he continued.

"I didn't play for a month and a half and the explanations they gave me did not convince me.

"If it had been a banned substance they would have had to have advised the Spanish Federation (RFEF) and Uefa, it's something they would have needed to know about."
