Valencia star Edu is set to miss the rest of the season with another serious knee injury.
Valencia midfielder Edu has suffered more injury heartbreak after sustaining another serious knee ligament injury.
The former Arsenal star was sidelined for virtually the entirety of last term after tearing the cruciate ligaments in his left knee in a pre-season friendly.
He battled back to fitness and appeared for his new employers in the closing weeks of the campaign and, following a full pre-season this time around, had begun to establish himself as a first-team regular at the Mestalla.
However, he was struck down with a similar injury in the closing minutes of Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Sevilla.
The 28-year-old was stretchered from the field in tears with Valencia's medical staff suspecting a tear to the cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Tests have now confirmed the club's worst fears and the Brazilian faces another six or seven months out of action.
Whilst a crushing blow for the player himself, it is yet another headache for Che coach Quique Flores whose squad is currently decimated by injury.
Edu is the ninth first-teamer now in the treatment room with Diego Gavilan, Ruben Baraja, Carlos Marchena, David Albelda, Asier Del Horno, Vicente, Emiliano Moretti and Mario Regueiro all laid low at present.
The exasperated Valencia boss stated: "The situation is incredible and terrible for us."
