Debut delight for Del Horno

Asier Del Horno has revealed his delight at finally making his debut for Valencia.

The full-back joined from Chelsea last summer, but an Achilles problem had prevented him from making his bow.

He was an unused substitute at Gimnastic last week, but played the entire game in Saturday's 1-0 win at home to Celta Vigo.

Del Horno was happy to step out at the Mestalla and is thankful to belatedly be back in action.

"The injury has stopped my career and I never believed I would have so much time without playing," said Del Horno.

"After nine months, I think in the last 20 minutes my effort will be the most difficult.

"The team has not conceded a goal and that is very important for a team. My team-mates have done a lot to help me in this match.

"My debut at home is special and has given me more confidence as a player."

The Spain international now hopes to continue his comeback by featuring in the UEFA Champions League tie with Internazionale on Tuesday.

He added: "Now the main question for me is to carry on working for the chance to be in the XI.

"Against Inter, it is the coach that has to have that decision."
