The European club season is almost over, meaning attention is turning to what is set to be a busy transfer window.

With players wanting their futures sorted before the World Cup deals are expected to be completed far earlier than normal, which means the rumour mill is already in overdrive.

We asked our friends at Football Whispers to scour the European newspapers to bring you all the latest transfer gossip from the continent.

Germany

Borussia Dortmund's negotiations with Sokratis Papastathopoulos have broken down and the player is now set to leave the German side. Previously subject of Arsenal transfer rumours the Gunners are reportedly best-placed to sign the player, who would cost around €15-20m (£13.23-£17.64m). The Greek has offers from other English clubs, however, as well as some from Serie A. (Kicker)

Nuri Sahin, Marcel Schmelzer and Gonzalo Castro have all been told they will be allowed to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer and will need to find new clubs. A clear-out is expected at the Westfalenstadion and those players will be the big names leaving. (Bild)

Spain

Atletico Madrid will make one last-ditch attempt to persuade Barcelona transfer target Antoine Griezmann into staying. A final offer has been sent to the Frenchman, which includes a huge pay increase. Atleti do not want to be seen to be allowing Griezmann to go easily, so wish to show, on their part, the desire to keep the player. (COPE Radio)

Paco Alcacer hopes to stay with Barcelona and, while the feeling is the club no longer wish to keep him, nothing has yet been officially communicated. Alcacer has made it clear he does not wish to leave Barca despite coach Ernesto Valverde reportedly not counting on him for next season. Aleix Vidal and Andres Gomes, subject of Tottenham transfer rumours, have already been told they can leave, however. (Mundo Deportivo)

Piero Ausilio, Inter Milan's sporting director, has again hinted the Nerazzurri will look to keep Barcelona loanee Rafinha at the club. However, the Inter chief also made it clear that if a deal could not be completed they will look elsewhere. (Mundo Deportivo)

Italy

Unai Emery is holding out for the Napoli job should Maurizio Sarri decide to leave. The Italian's future with the Partenopei is not certain, however, with rumours linking him to a Premier League switch. However, Sarri could still stay at Napoli and that is an obstacle for Emery who views the role as his ideal next job. The Spaniard is not willing to wait too long and wants to know where he will be based next season. (Calciomercato)

AC Milan director Massimiliano Mirabelli has not ruled out the possible sale of Gianluigi Donnarumma. The teenage stopper is a Paris-Saint Germain and Real Madrid transfer target. (Mediaset Premium)
