Colsa, regarded as one of the top prospects in Spain, moved to Atletico Madrid from Racing Santander in 2001.
A World Cup Under-20 winner in 1999 and a silver medallist at the European Cup with the Under-18s, Colsa was until recently the Spanish Under-21 captain.
However, with los rojiblancos splashing out on a number of high profile deals in the summer, it would appear that Colsa would not be in the first team this season and has been given the opportunity to prove himself on loan.
The move depends on if Atletico land Argentinian Ariel Ibagaza, a deal that could go through this week.
"The possibility to play is there, but at the moment I do not know anything," said Colsa about a move to Mallorca.
He added: "I only know what the media is publishing. Everybody would like to play for a team like Mallorca. They have a coach that knows me, but right now I am continuing to be an Atletico player.
"It would definitely not be a step back in my career. What I want to do is play, but I repeat we are speaking hypothetically."
