Atletico Madrid's Argentine keeper Leo Franco is happy with his international call-up
After Atletico Madrid's impressive start to the season, goalkeeper Leo Franco has even more to smile about - he has been called-up to the Argentine national squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Chile.
The 29-year-old, a summer signing from Mallorca, said: "I am always happy when I am called to the national team because having the chance to play for Argentina is something really difficult.
"Argentina is one of the most powerful national teams in the world and there are plenty of great players, so being part of the team is something very important for me."
However, Franco seemed content to remain a squad player, adding: "I don't care if I play or not."
Discussing Atletico's bright start to the season - they currently occupy fourth spot in La Liga - Franco said: "I think that we have to work a little bit harder in making sure of the result when we are winning.
"Fortunately we are not having many goals against us, and it is thanks to our defenders because they are doing a very good job."
