Germans pounce for Paunovic

Veljko Paunovic has hinted he could be on the way to Bundesliga outfit Hannover.

Veljko Paunovic has hinted he could be on the way to Bundesliga outfit Hannover after leaving Atletico Madrid.

The Serbian, who can play in midfield or attack, annulled his contract last week due to a lack of first-team opportunities.

However, Spanish league rules stipulate that he has already made too many appearances for Los Rojiblancos this term to be allowed to join another Primera side.

Thus the 27-year-old must look outside Spain for a new club, but insists there is no shortage of interest.

One of his suitors are Hannover, who currently lie eighth in the German top flight, and Paunovic concedes it is an option that appeals to him.

"Given the number of games I have played I will have to play outside Spain, but I don't know my destination," he explained.

"I have various offers and I am surprised by the number of teams that have got in contact with me.

"One of those is Hannover, we are evaluating this option and it could prove to be the best because I would love to go to a team where I can play and compete."

Paunovic claims his desire to win trophies led him to quit Atletico, and has targeted regular first-team football.

"I want to compete and fight with the best and I could not do that here," he continued.

"This desire led me to take the decision (to leave Atletico).

"I want to play and enjoy football because I am 27-years old - the right age to be fighting for a title."
