Getafe starlet Gabi is the latest Spanish prospect to come to the attention of Arsenal.Arsenal's scouting of Spain's brightest talents is continuing apace with Getafe starlet Gabi the latest prospect to come to their attention.
Gabi, full name Gabriel Fernandez Arenas, is on a season-long loan at Getafe from city rivals Atletico Madrid.
The midfielder, 21, has a further two-and-a-half years left on his current deal with Atletico, who loaned him out to gain top-flight experience this term.
His performances for Getafe have really caught the eye, and he is one of the major reasons the Madrid-based minnows have a genuine chance of avoiding relegation back to La Segunda.
The youngster has been a virtual ever-present for Quique Flores' side and, as well as Arsenal, his displays are understood to have attracted the interest of Valencia.
The Gunners are reported to have sent a representative to watch him in action in Getafe's 3-0 home win over Zaragoza last month and, on the back of his performance, have requested videos of several of the club's games from the first half of the season.
However, Atletico are well aware of the player's potential and regard him as an integral part of the club's future.
His current release clause stands at some é¼6 million, but Los Rojiblancos are planning to revise his contract on his return to the Vicente Calderon next summer whereupon that figure and his wages are likely to be substantially increased.
