Wolfsburg have rejected a é¼6 million bid from Atletico Madrid for Martin Petrov.Wolfsburg have rejected a é¼6 million bid from Atletico Madrid for Bulgarian international Martin Petrov.
The Bundesliga side have been locked in negotiations with Atletico for their star striker, although talks are yet to yield a positive result despite Petrov reportedly agreeing personal terms.
Petrov is keen to move to La Liga where he would link up with wonderkid Fernando Torres at Vicente Calderon, although he may be forced to continue his career at Wolfsburg should the Spanish side not up their offer.
Wolves' sport director Thomas Strunz revealed that Atletico had failed to match their é¼10 million valuation of the player, and insisted that Petrov would now be required at The VW-Arena next term.
"Their é¼6 million offer is just not acceptable," said Strunz.
"We have informed the player's agents of our view and made it clear that we will insist on Petrov fulfilling his contract."
The 26-year-old is contracted with Wolfsburg until 2007 and could now play a central role under new coach Holger Fach next season.
