Martin Petrov has revealed his delight at completing a move to Atletico.Martin Petrov has announced that his aim is to make Fernando Torres or Mateja Kezman the league's top goalscorer after completing his long-awaited move from Wolfsburg to Atletico Madrid.
The Bulgarian international could not hide his excitement after joining Los Colchineros and declared that he had made the switch to achieve the dreams that he could not reach in Germany.
Atletico made Petrov their number one target after the arrival of new coach Carlos Bianchi and he is determined not to let anyone down.
"Torres is an icon here and I hope to make him or Kezman, who is another great goalscorer, the Pichichi winner (Spain's top scorer award)," he said.
"I would also like to help my fellow newcomer Maxi to score as many goals as possible.
"Since I first heard about Atletico's interest I wanted to come here. This is a great club with a grand history and is famous throughout Spain and Europe.
"They have had some bad times over the past few years, but I have met only ambitious people who want to bring back the good times. For these reasons I gave the go-ahead to talk to Atletico from the very start.
"Another reason I have joined is because I want to play at a higher level, something that I could not do in Germany. With this coach and these players I think that we can make it into the Champions League.
"With the help of my team-mates I will be able to overcome any pressure that I know will come in my first few games."
Petrov was finally transferred for around é¼8.5million and not the é¼10million that was originally announced, Atletico have revealed.
