The 30-year-old played his 100th league game for Los Rojiblancos last weekend in the 3-1 win over Barcelona having joined the club from Real Valladolid back in the summer of 2001.
In recent times he has found himself playing second fiddle to first-choice central defensive pairing Pablo Ibanez and Luis Perea.
However, despite this, Garcia Calvo is prepared to stay and fight for his place at the Vicente Calderon and is hoping to extend his contract which runs until 2007.
"It fills me with pride to have played that many matches for a team I appreciate so much," he stated. "Now I want to reach 200.
"I am a red and white (Atletico fan). Since the first day I arrived here I realised just how big a club it is, but everybody makes you feel at home.
"My contract finishes on June 30, 2007 and I would like to renew it for a few more years and finish my career at this club."
