Racing Santander have signed two former players in Gonzalo Colsa and Luis Fernandez.
Racing Santander have signed two former players in Gonzalo Colsa and Luis Fernandez on the same day that they announced that Miguel Angel Portugal as the club's new coach.
The Cantabrian outfit were stunned after the resignation of trainer Juan Ramon Lopez Caro, who quit to take over at Levante after only five weeks at El Sardinero.
That has not stopped them pressing ahead with their summer rebuilding programme as president, Francisco Pernia, stated that two signings had been made.
Colsa has rejoined Racing after making the switch from Atletico Madrid, where he spent two seasons after moving from Mallorca.
The 27-year-old midfielder came up through the youth ranks at Racing and spent four seasons in the first-team squad before moving to El Vicente Calderon in 2001.
Luis Fernandez is also heading back to the club where he spent three years, between 1993 and 1996.
The tough-tackling defender joined Real Betis ten years ago and has been a regular in the Andalucian club's first team throughout that time.
Racing have also moved quickly to install Portugal as their new coach, only hours after the departure of Lopez Caro.
Portugal also replaced Lopez Caro as the coach of Real Madrid Castilla, when the latter was promoted to replace Wanderley Luxemburgo as first-team coach at El Santiago Bernabeu.
"It came as a huge surprise that the deal was done in just a day," Portugal said, reflecting on the speed of the talks to make him the new Racing coach.
