Kezman set for Turkey transfer

Mateja Kezman looks set to sign for Fenerbahce after failing to shine at Atletico Madrid.

Mateja Kezman looks set to sign for Turkish outfit Fenerbahce after slipping down the pecking order at Atletico Madrid.

The 27-year-old Serbian striker moved to Vicente Calderon from Chelsea last summer after struggling in The Premiership.

But he has also failed to set La Liga alight, scoring just eight goals in 30 games for Madrid before a knee injury ended his season.

The arrivals of Argentine forward Sergio Aguero and Spanish striker Mista has added extra competition to the squad and prompted Kezman's move to Turkey.

"Atletico Madrid and Fenerbahce have reached an initial agreement for the transfer of Mateja Kezman," the club's website confirmed.

With Atletico hot on the heels of wantaway Arsenal attacker Jose Antonio Reyes, it now looks like Kezman could make way and raise some extra funds.

While The Gunners have continued to rebuff interest in their Furia Roja star so far, Portugal midfielder Maniche is poised to join the Liga side from Dynamo Moscow.

With the transfer deadline fast approaching Atletico still have a lot of loose ends to tie up before Thursday, but first up is their season-opener away at Racing Santander on Sunday.
