Gremio have revealed they have received an approach from Juventus for Lucas.
Brazilian side Gremio have revealed they have received an approach from Juventus for midfielder Lucas.
Gremio's vice president Tulio Macedo claimed The Old Lady's interest in the much sought after player, who has also come to the attention of Atletico Madrid in recent weeks.
Atletico are reported to have already drawn up a shopping list as the Liga side bid to offset the long term absences of the injured Maxi Rodriguez and Martin Petrov.
But the capital club may now face competition for Lucas's services after Macedo made public Juve coach Didier Deschamps's desire to land the 19-year-old prospect, who has already earned the international acclaim of Brazil coach Dunga.
"Atletico Madrid have been interested in Lucas, apparently in order to replace Maxi Rodriguez, but now we have received a proposal from Juventus for the same player," said Macedo.
"Atletico have until Friday to answer whether they accept the conditions we have put to the transfer that are, one part paid now, and the transfer of the player completed after the Copa Libertadores next year."
Atletico are reported to have offered é¼7 million (£4.5 million) for the player, but a delay in negotiations prompted coach Javier Aguirre to acquire Elano from Shakhtar Donetsk.
Even so, Macedo believes Atletico remain interested in signing Lucas.
"We know that Elano is going to join Atletico, but they are still interested in Lucas. However, if they don't give us an answer by next Friday, then we will start to have conversations with Juventus."
Atletico are also rumoured to be considering River Plate's Fernando Belluschi as an alternative.
Reports suggest the Spaniards have already had contact with the Buenos Aires giants, but Atletico have so far refused to corroborate the claims.
