Oscar Serrano has won his legal fight with Espanyol and will join Racing Santander.Oscar Serrano looks to have won his legal fight with Espanyol and is now poised to quit the club to join Racing Santander on a free transfer.
The left-sided midfielder joined Espanyol last summer on a one-year deal from lower league outfit Figueres and, although he was expected to initially be a reserve team player, made an instant impression at Estadio Olimpico de Montjuic.
With his pace, tricks and direct style, the 23-year-old established himself in Miguel Angel Lotina's first team and was quickly offered an improved contract by the Catalans.
Serrano signed the deal, but conflict came after his form dipped in the second half of the season when he became little more than a bit-part player.
The wide man decided he wanted to move on and accepted a deal to join Racing.
Espanyol claimed his new deal had also extended his contract, while Serrano insisted it had merely increased his wages.
The two parties eventually ended in court to settle the dispute and the hearing was held on Monday.
Sources close to the player have now revealed the verdict came down on the side of the player and, although there is still no official word, he looks set to complete his free transfer move.
Espanyol will understandably be more than a little miffed at the outcome with Serrano having already shown he could develop into a player a real quality.
