Former Sevilla striker Iago Aspas scored a hat-trick as Celta Vigo recorded a thumping 4-0 victory over the Andalusian side.
The hosts took the lead in the 38th minute when Sevilla defender Guilherme Arana put the ball in his own net.
Sevilla, who also scored an own goal in their midweek Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, almost levelled things up three minutes before the break but Sandro Ramirez's volley was kept out by goalkeeper Sergio.
Aspas made it 2-0 after 57 minutes before netting his second three minutes later.
The Spain international, who played for Sevilla during the 2014/15 season on loan from Liverpool, completed his hat-trick 12 minutes before the end to wrap up a convincing win.
Alaves took a giant step towards survival with a 2-0 home victory over Getafe in Saturday's early kick-off.
After a goalless first half, Alaves broke the deadlock three minutes into the second half when Victor Laguardia headed home.
And the hosts doubled their advantage 15 minutes before the end when John Guidetti's cross was nodded in by on-loan Barcelona forward Munir El Haddadi.
Getafe had the chance to reduce the deficit six minutes later when substitute Loic Remy was fouled in the penalty area but Vitorino Antunes missed the spot-kick.
The victory ends Alaves' four-match winless streak and moves them 12 points clear of the relegation zone.
Real Betis defeated Eibar 2-0 in a feisty encounter at Estadio Benito Villamarin.
Sergio Leon handed the hosts a 1-0 lead before an Artiz Arbilla own goal in the second sealed the points.
