The 28-year-old is to sign a one-year deal with the Madrid-based outfit and joins from Boca Juniors in his homeland.
Matellan has had two spells at Boca, which sandwiched a three-year stint at Schalke from 2001 to 2004.
The imposing central defender will help fill the void left by Nano's recent departure to Real Betis and admitted he was looking forward to playing in Europe again.
"It's really exciting to have the chance to play at Getafe," he stated.
"I have always dreamed of playing in a league as competitive as the Spanish league and I want to work really hard for the club."
Joining Matellan at Getafe next season will be young Valencia midfielder Jaime Gavilan who has agreed a season-long loan deal, but he will not be joined by team-mate David Silva who rejected a similar move from the Mestalla.
Meanwhile, midfielder Quique Medina has departed Getafe having had his contract cancelled by mutual consent.
