The committee said the action was a temporary move while they decided whether the player's conduct was worthy of further punishment.
The Spanish international was one of three players to see red in the game, with Espanyol pair Cyril Demoraud and David Garcia also getting their marching orders.
The match official's report explained that Joaquin had been sent-off for 'confronting an opponent who had fouled him, pressing his head against the player then striking him around the face with an open hand'.
The committee have now got to decide whether those actions fall into a more serious category of aggression.
Both Demoraud and Garcia have received definite one-game bans for their dismissals.
