Soldevilla has yet to appear for Espanyol this season after struggling with the problem for several weeks, although he has featured on the substitutes' bench.
The 24-year-old has been unable to train for the past few days and, after consultations with the club's doctors, has been sent for an operation.
He has now commenced his rehabilitation from the surgery but he is unlikely to return to action until November.
The centre half's absence has presented Espanyol coach Javier Clemente with a major dilemma at the heart of his rearguard.
Clemente only has Alberto Lopo and Daniel Jarque as recognised central defenders with his remaining feasible option to turn Cyril Domoraud into a makeshift stopper.
