Espanyol boss Miguel Lotina is desperate to retain Albert Lopo and Maxi Rodriguez.Espanyol boss Miguel Angel Lotina has urged the club to secure the long-term futures of Albert Lopo and Maxi Rodriguez.
Both players have just 18 months left on their respective contracts, and Lotina is already concerned at the prospect of losing the duo.
Lopo has established himself as a key performer in the centre of Espanyol's defence, while Argentine midfielder Rodriguez has blossomed this year and already has nine goals to his name.
Lotina has now challenged the club's board to prove their ambition by agreeing contracts with both players, and sanctioning the arrival of four high-class signings next summer.
"They are both coming into their last season of contract and are becoming attractive propositions for other clubs," Lotina stated.
"We have to improve their contracts as soon as possible. We can not produce footballers for them then to go to our rivals."
On the subject of further strengthening his squad, Lotina continued: "If we want to develop on the pitch we must make at least four signings, and that is without selling anyone.
"We need signings that bring something extra. We need good players, not superfluous ones."
